Can someone help me with Twitter?

When I receive any Tweet, it then appears in my email, tied to Twitter. Can I, while in email, click reply and send them a message? The Tweeters don't seem to be getting my responses. Please explain why this is happening. My replies to them are too long for regular Tweet.
